Come up with list of ideas for the project In progress

Marks View of the way things stand..?

So far it looks like we possibly have a project with a couple of civil engineers working under Dr Jason Ingham (spell).

Dr Webber found us a project to do with organising a database and presentation of information on buildings in the auckland region and features relating to earthquake risk (I am guessing in relation to what danger each building is in).  The epics team will consist of the four Software Engineering students mentioned above, and will work in part with the fourth year project from the two students in Civil Engineering.

Dr Sithen-Roberts (I still cant spell?) isnt completely convinced but Dr. Webber thinks we have a good shot?

Ideas for the project

  • Something for the Museum/Art gallery etc.
  • Contact acouncil for programs they may need.
  • Something for public schools.. or even an inter-school thing
  • website for community centres/programs
  • hospitals
  • how about hacking military networks of all OECD governments thus making NZ the most powerful nation in the world
    • I think I have seen this kinda thing in a few movies. The 'hacker' always ends up getting shot.
  • I'm sure ARC would have a lot of ideas... they hire software engineers.
  • Interface to government statistical database

Ideas (From Ben):

  1. Adding details to Google maps or similar to include all public facilities and what not extensively, in partnership with various councils to identify these places.
  2. A system that will track where your money goes to when donated to a charity. This would need the buy in from the charity where by they would have to record their expenditure etc to provide some form of public access to this information.
  3. Some form of database based web system where by users can register and select things they want to be notified for in terms of the select comittee hearings in government when new legislation is proposed or to be debated.
  4. Some form of system where people could advertise their route they travel to work and people could log on and search for similar to sign up for car pooling with them for example. - ARC + traffic reduction strategies well included.

Notes:

Can we perhaps revamp an existing piece of software? For example we could ask if a local library would like to have their web search interface improved? - definitely possible

Is the pbwiki logo a piece of cake, or a sandwich?! - sandwich I believe
